After their last meeting, Kazakhstan President Nazarbayev and United States President Obama issued joint statements that tackled issues related to democracy, American-Kazakh contacts and their countries’ bilateral agreement.
Bilateral Consultations
The two country leaders had their first round of yearly bilateral talks last March 8th and 9th 2010, held in Washington DC. The consultations aimed to thoroughly enhance the dimensions of their bilateral connection, including security and prevention cooperation, financial and energy collaboration, as well as universal standards.
Democracy
The US persuaded Kazakhstan to execute its 2010-2020 Legal Concept and 2009-2010 National Human Rights Action Plan. Furthermore, the United States revealed that it will keep promoting the Kazakhstan government’s movement on freedom of the media and democracy in the political system.
Further Developing Connections
The presidents stressed on the significance of enhancing the connection between Kazakh and American civil societies, such as non-governmental organizations, academic institutions and religious sectors. In fact, Nazarbayev even praised Obama’s speech in Cairo and American president’s outreach effort to the Muslims.
Nazarbayev and Obama emphasized the vital part that religious tolerance and freedom takes in forming controlled and peaceful societies. Moreover, they announced America’s support for Kazakhstan’s position as the 2011 Chairman of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of the Islamic Conference and 2010 OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe) Chairman.
